In brief

This podcast project—developed by Gwendoline Lüthi and Laurence Raynault-Rioux in collaboration with the Fédération du Québec pour le planning des naissances (FQPN)—aims to highlight the realities of people with disabilities in terms of sexuality and more particularly, those of cis and trans women and non-binary people.
In fact, society has been built around “valid” bodies, and thus does not take into account the numerous and non-compliant experiences of people who do not fit these criteria.
To challenge negative stereotypes that still widely affect women with disabilities, it is necessary to give positive examples of diversity of bodies, minds and practices.
Project Progress
This project is currently in the development phase. We are thus looking for prospective guests for the episodes’ recordings, which should be held soon.
We are looking for French speaking cisgender women, trans women and non-binary people with disabilities. Since disabilities are diverse, we want to represent experiences related to visible and invisible disabilities, deafness, neurodiversity, and more!

Hosts
Gwendoline was born and grew up in Switzerland where she completed a bachelor’s degree in social work. She has always loved to travel and loves (Swiss!!!) chocolate more than anything. She has arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a syndrome that stopped her arms from developing before she was born, which considerably reduces her strength and ability to grip. As a fervent feminist activist, she now approaches the matter of sexual ableism with resilience.
Born in Quebec, Laurence is a 25-year-old woman who loves cats a bit too much, as well as sudoku, dating stories and musicals. Suffering from mild cerebral palsy, she navigates as best she can in a world where sidewalk cracks and sexist and ableist comments are a threat to her balance. She is in charge of the ACSEXE+ project at the Fédération du Québec pour le planning des naissances.

Our Position

Gwendoline and Laurence are also aware that they hold a number of privileges, particularly since they are both white cisgendered women with university degrees. Their disabilities are visible and semi-visible, which allow them to “pass” as able-bodied persons in many everyday situations. They both live in Montreal. They know their privileges and are actively working on becoming better allies in supporting the more marginalized. These positions are stated in advance to provide context for the guests and listeners of the podcast.
Detailed Presentation
Au coin du brasier is a feminist podcast project that aims to be accessible, inclusive and uninhibited.
Faced with the realization that sexual health of women with disabilities is too often obscured and invisible, Gwendoline and Laurence decided to offer a platform where it would finally be possible to discuss it openly. Along with their guests, they will address new themes in order to make visible/audible the realities of diverse bodies and experiences. With sensitivity and humour, they will discuss daily coping strategies to navigate sexuality using anecdotes, juicy stories, reflections, but also times of frustration. This podcast is an opportunity to give a voice to people whose intimate and sexual experiences are highly invisible.
This project has been thought of and realized by and for cis, trans women and non-binary people with disabilities. It is meant to be a popular education tool that is accessible in order to disseminate positive content produced by the people concerned. People without disabilities who wish to deconstruct their internalized ableism are also invited to stay tuned to the podcast to become better allies.
