The science section has a new look! Since our inception we have been sharing two recently published scientific articles per week, but we have now decided to give this section a different focus. Rather than offering you an eclectic selection of articles on various subjects, we will now focus on a specific theme in order to present the main issues, accompanied by a selection of articles and, as a new addition, scientific books related to it. However, this will only be a general introduction, not an exhaustive review.
Group sex is an extremely popular fantasy today. According to Justin Lehmiller, psychologist and researcher, it is the most common fantasy in the United States and 30% of Americans say they have already taken part in it, with 32% of men and 29% of women respectively. Although the practice of group sex is not new and go back to immemorial times, whether for religious reasons or as part of collective movements, research on the subject is quite rare, especially since the beginning of the 1990s. After an abundance of studies in the 1960s and 1970s, the subject largely remains under researched, while studies of plural relationships, particularly polyamory, are of interest to the research community. However, the study of group sex raises questions in terms of methodology, public health and the way in which these environments are structured. Moreover, group sex is not limited to the study of plural sexual practices or those taking place in swingers establishments, but also concern both gendered interactions and the way in which we intervene with these people, whether they are queer or heterosexual.
