Here is a short illustrated book on the prevention of sexual assault among young people aged 3 to 9.

This book is a worthwhile tool for any adult looking to start a discussion around this topic with children. Adults can most definitely help young people be aware of themes relating to the body, rights, good and bad forms of touching,  helpful strategies to keep safe, and even how to disclose unpleasant secrets and confide in parents and caregivers. This tool can assist adults in proactive reading with childrenmaking them reflect on certain situations by stimulating their empathy by identifying the affects of the book’s characters, and by promoting their recognition of situations of sexual violence. In this way, young people will be able to obtain information, gain confidence in themselves, and assert themselves in dangerous and uncomfortable situations. In turn, adults are also accompanied with their own tools to assist children in need, such as what steps are involved in contacting child protective services and how to go about reporting sexual assault.

This book is also inclusive as it depicts  non-stereotypical representations of children. The order in which stories and scenarios are presented is particularly relevant given the  levels of sexual violence presented, highlighting that no situation involving sexual violence should be minimized,regardless of its presentation. Throughout the book, it is also clear the intent to  empower young people and adults in their surroundings and in situations of sexual assault.
