Sexuality is an important part of human life, but it is not without risk. Each sexual encounterthat involves genital contact, whether it is mutual or oral-genital, presents a greater or lesser risk of contractinga sexually transmitted and blood-borne infection (STBBI). For a long time called "venereal diseases", their name progressively evolved into "sexually transmitted diseases" (STDs) and finally into sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or STBBIs, the term "infection" being less stigmatizing than that of "disease",  in addition to taking into considering that some infections are asymptomatic. Research on STIs is not only the prerogative of medicine. While treatment of these infections remains an important goal, understanding attitudes towards them, the different modes of transmission, and ways to conduct inclusive and non-stigmatizing awareness policies is also necessary. This is why STBBIs are a theme that is widely addressed by academic research. As part of DépistaFest, the STBBI screening festival in which Les 3 sex* is a partner, we offer a non-exhaustive overview of academic research on sexual health.
