If the prison is a place intended for the deprivation of freedom, the question of sexuality and intimacy within it is largely unthought of. Although strictly forbidden, sexuality inside prisons is nevertheless a reality, unknown and very widely silenced but very present. Beyond the simple sanction of a given crime, the penal sanction generally ignores all that has to do with desires and sexuality but also with the bodies and intimacy of the prisoners. However, all this does not cease at the moment of imprisonment and should even be the object of special attention. In the same way that sexuality and intimacy in prison are fundamental issues that are too often ignored, the question of these subjects once the sentence has been served also arises because of the impact of the penitentiary institution on bodies and behavior. Finally, what about sexualities and marginalized orientations in these spaces marked by important power and domination relationships? These are the issues that this review will attempt to address through a selection of research on a complex but vital subject.
