The latest psychological thriller from authors Pierre-Marc Drouin and Pascale Renaud-Hébert, featuring Jean-Philippe Baril Guérard, has debuted on Crave, delivering consistent suspense from the start to the end of each episode. After the death of their father, Paul-Émile de Léry, the four siblings—a group of business-savvy heirs—must overcome a series of eerie challenges that unearth childhood traumas to claim an inheritance of 84 million dollars. Their troubled memories of an abusive childhood threaten to fracture their familial bonds.

The heirs face challenges that test their physical strength, emotional resilience, and cleverness. As the plot thickens, viewers are pulled into a sadistic escalation with stellar performances by the cast (Évelyne Brochu, Éric Bureau, Jean-Simon Leduc, Catherine Brunet, Thomas Antony Olajide, and Nour Belkhiria), raising the stakes and amplifying the emotional atmosphere. Each challenge appears to have been crafted by their father to push his children’s limits, all of whom have been scarred by his violent and manipulative antics.

Directors Marie-Claude Blouin and Félix Tétreault, acclaimed for their work on the series Chouchou, weave a gripping family narrative set in a tense, claustrophobic space, heightening the series’ anxiety-inducing atmosphere. The filming location, a mansion that once belonged to Céline Dion, adds a touch of luxury that contrasts sharply with the characters’ dark and intricate lives.

Early in the series, a rift emerges between brothers Mathieu and Julien de Léry, portrayed by Éric Bruneau and Jean-Simon Leduc, respectively. Mathieu’s current partner Andrew (Thomas Antony Olajide) also has a past with Julien. The portrayal of these three main queer characters is noteworthy as their narratives focus on their lives and quests rather than their sexual orientations or coming-out stories. Despite Mathieu’s and Julien’s professional achievements in medicine and finance, their relentless pursuit of their father’s legacy stirs intrigue and deepens the mystery from the series’ outset.

In Memoriam authentically mirrors contemporary real-life dynamics by showcasing a diverse cast of characters who reflect the depth and complexity of modern society.
