Catfishing is when a person creates a fake profile to assume an identity other than their own for fraudulent or misleading purposes. This person can create an identity from scratch, or even steal the identity of an existing person. They do this either by taking content available online (e.g. assuming the identity of a public figure), or by using content obtained through phishing.
It is completely normal and acceptable to want to live your sexuality online, and want to spice up things with your matches, but BE CAREFUL when a person quickly suggests to continue the discussion on a private or video communication platform. Professional sextortionists resort to this tactic, using an encrypted platform that helps their identity to be covered up or a video chat platform to take screenshots and then blackmail the victim with the content obtained in a nonconsensual manner.
