The Quebec Regroupment of Centers for Assistance and Combating Sexual Assault (RQCALACS) is dedicated to promoting the exchange of expertise between its member centers, to supporting the search for solutions to stop sexual assault and to ensure the development of intersectional feminist intervention services for women and girls.

Driven by a spirit of social justice, RQCALACS seeks to propel social, legal and political change.

The work of RQCALACS and its members is part of autonomous community action, and a long democratic and participatory tradition, supported by a vision “by and for.”

RQCALACS develops an intersectional feminist approach to better understand the different contexts of oppression occurring in the lives of adults and children and to adapt its practices according to the needs and realities of each.

The RQCALACS recognizes the importance of sharing powers, information and access to resources through the establishment of inclusive structures and adapted measures. It also aims to include groups of women who experience specific realities linked to the intersection of discrimination to which they are subject.

RQCALACS recognizes and accepts the difference and autonomy of each body, each member center and each person in his/her diversity. This difference can be expressed as much in their communications, in the rhythm of their healing processes and in their positions as in their approaches.

The RQCALACS celebrates the mutual commitment of various internal committees and members driven by a spirit of cooperation in the search for the common good aimed at equality and social justice.

Clarifications by the Review Team

The Regroupement québécois des centers d'aide et de combat contre les assaults of a sexual nature (RQCALACS) [in English, the Québec Coalition of Sexual Assault Help Centers], provides information on sexual assault help centres (CALACS). Users are able to locate their nearest CALACS and receive a variety of direct support and assistance. Today, there are more than 40 CALACS and similar organizations across Québec.

CALACS offer to support victims and survivors of sexual violence, including providing support to loved ones and families. This may include support groups or psychosocial services (by telephone or in-person) with social workers and other experts. Similarly, some CALACS provide specialized support in areas involving sexual exploitation, Indigenous communities, and those living with various disabilities. Training is also offered to those involved in legal, community-based, health, and social service sectors. Here, the goal is to strengthen and promote supportive attitudes and knowledge of all available resources of these experts, who are often first point of contact for disclosures of sexual violence.

Individuals may also find more information at CALACS kiosks, dedicated to raising awareness, campaigning and prevention efforts, and responding to general inquiries.

CALACS offer a broad scope, including consultation, mobilization, and defending the rights of individuals involved various aspects of sexual violence experiences.

The CALACS website is accessible and easy to navigate, allowing users to easily and quickly find their nearest CALAC and related resources. However, users must visit the designated CALAC website closest to their location as the RQCALACS site is only a general resource.
