Financed by the Foundation of Greater Montr茅al鈥檚 Fund for Gender Equality, Te reconnais-tu? Parlons des violences insidieuses is a project designed to fight gender inequalities by exploring how insidious and subtle violence can manifest itself in intimate relationships. It does so by focusing on the aggressors鈥 perspective.
Violence in intimate relationships exists on a spectrum, and it is vital to focus on its early warning signs as well as its more difficult-to-identify, insidious manifestations. After all, insidious violence is still violence, and many people engage in it unknowingly. By appealing directly to these people, we hope to tackle the issue at its very roots, and suggest healthier behaviours to adopt.
Te reconnais-tu? Parlons des violences insidieuses aims to:聽
- Raise awareness of the insidious types of violence that can creep into our relationships on a daily basis, so that we can put an end to them;
- Change the way people think about violence in intimate relationships;
- Offer alternative approaches to these forms of violence by promoting healthy relationships.
As a result of the awareness campaign, Te reconnais-tu? Tu peux faire mieux. Choisis la non violence., Les 3 sex* wished to explore further the theme of insidious and subtle violence within intimate relationships, focusing primarily on the people who perpetrate it. The project extends to all intimate relationships, whether queer or not. In addition to raising awareness, it even goes a step further by collecting testimonials and creating a comprehensive, turnkey resource that provides solutions to insidious violence. To this end, the project has three components:聽
- A survey and a call for testimonials;
- An extensive awareness campaign;
- A turnkey resource.
Survey
Through an anonymous and confidential survey, Les聽3聽sex* seeks to draw a portrait of the subtle forms of violence that occur in intimate relationships, targeting both the individuals who perpetrate them and those who experience them. The survey explores different types of behaviours and reactions within intimate relationships. All people living in Quebec, aged 14 and over, are invited to complete the survey.
Respondents will also be able to submit testimonials in text form (500 to 800 words).
Awareness Campaign
The awareness-raising campaign aims to draw attention to the subtle and insidious forms of violence, in an effort to shift the general public鈥檚 perception of them. In addition, complementary information vignettes will be created, providing definitions of concepts and relevant resources for learning more about each topic.聽 聽聽
The awareness campaign took place in December 2023 on our social networks.
Turnkey Resource
Being able to identify subtle and insidious forms of violence helps mitigate the risk of being subjected to them in an intimate relationship, as it improves the ability to recognize the early signs of a violent relationship. The turnkey resource helps identify subtle forms of violence and promotes healthy behaviours in intimate relationships.
The tool was released in spring 2024.
